Educators understand and apply knowledge of student growth and development.
During practicum I was able to do a writing unit with the students. Our huge topic was all about hot chocolate, and each writing activity catered towards hot chocolate. The students wrote a number of times on different ideas about hot chocolate, for example: how to make hot chocolate (step by step), how they like to drink their own hot chocolate (what toppings they enjoy most), and when they like to drink hot chocolate. Throughout the unit, the students gained some writing skills and created a final poster where they expressed creativity and their best writing abilities. After the unit, I got to use a writing rubric to assess the students and recognize their growth throughout the unit. I found this to be very beneficial and quite interesting.
Attached is a photo of the rubric that I had used to assess the writing.
